Brief Overview Of Events In Florence Italy

There is almost no time of year that one does not find events in Florence Italy. There are parades, parties, festivals, exhibits, and fun almost every week and many of the events last for several months. One can come during an event and be an active participate or just watch the fun. Either way, a person enjoys the festive environment and love of the Italian people for a good party.

January begins with parties, parades, and fireworks on New Year's Eve followed by Fashion Show week which lasts through to the end of the month. A person can participate from the beginning of the year and enjoy the shows brought by fashion designers from all over the world.

In February Florence hosts the biggest carnival in Italy. This carnival lasts the entire month and the city is alive with festivals, parties, parades, and street performers. People coming to the events in Florence Italy will find that spending time with the people of Florence and the performers of the Carnival give one a view of the traditions that are throughout Italy.

Easter Sunday begins a month long series of festivals and parades beginning with the Scoppio del carro. The Explosion of the Cart festival starts with a cart filled with fireworks set ablaze by a dove that flies down from the cathedral on a wire.

The Festa del Grillo/Cricket Festival is a festival held in May when vendors sell crickets in woven cages to people in the park. These crickets are then released, bring luck to their new owners. The rest of May and June are devoted to Maggio Musicale which is Florences' major arts festival. The event includes concerts, traditional dance, ballet performances, and theatre.

Also in June one can participate in the Calcio in Costume/Football in Costume which is held in the Piazza di Santa Croce. There are parades, parties, food, wine, and a game that combines football and rugby is played by regional champions. The Estate Fiesolana/Fiesole Summer held right after this festival celebrates music, arts, drama, dance and film.

From July through December one is met with a parade, party, festival or dance on a weekly basis in Florence. The Festival Pucciniano which performs the maestro's operas is held in a open air theater by the lake.

The Giostra del Saraceno is a huge event that starts with a parade through Florence with participants in costumes. It ends with a party in the Piazza Grande. This medieval-style joust is something that one shouldn't miss.
